5 Mindful Moments We Always Rely On

mindful-moments

To be mindful is to be fully present in the now, aware where we are and what we’re doing, and not letting our environment consume us. Mindfulness is a skill, and much like any other skill, it’s one that you should practice daily. Here are five of our favorite Mindful Moment exercises to help you stay grounded and train your brain to live in the moment.

Set Intentions with Find Your Word

When life starts to feel overwhelming, it’s important to come back to whatever intentions you’ve set for yourself. A single word is enough to give you direction and act as an overarching theme for your goals and projects. You can also select a word that helps you feel calm and brings you back to a state of peace. A few that we like are confidence, love, creativity, and wisdom. Embody your word throughout the day, and notice how much more inspired you feel.

Ground Yourself with The Heartbeat Exercise

Life moves quickly these days. While it’s easy to get swept up in the day-to-day, it’s important to slow down and re-center. The Heartbeat Exercise is a great way to take a moment for yourself if you’re stressed or anxious. If your heart rate is elevated, place your hands over your heart and take your time getting into a seated position. As your heartbeat slows, begin taking deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Take a moment to appreciate the stillness.

Get a Move on with Mindful Walking

Our bodies were made to move. Mindful Walking helps you take note of how you’re walking. Is your posture slouched or are you standing straight up? Where do your hands fall when you walk – in your pockets, in front of you, or at your sides? You can even sync your breathing with the steps you take. It’s all about grounding and being as present as you can.

Live in the Moment with The Five Senses

The present really is a present. So, it’s important to make sure you’re focusing on the world around you, rather than something in the past or far off in the future. Take a moment to point out five things you can see, four things you can feel, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, and one thing you can taste. Noticing what you normally don’t sense is a great way to refresh your perspective.

Show Some Love with Kindness for Yourself

Many of us are so concerned with being kind and loving towards others that we tend to forget about ourselves. People find happiness and connection through love and kindness, so don’t forget that you also have to have love and kindness for yourself, too. Here are some affirmations we like to use to remind ourselves of this:

  • “May I be safe and healthy.”
  • “May I feel loved.”
  • “May I feel happy.”
  • “May I feel at peace.”

Final Thoughts

When you practice mindfulness regularly, you may find yourself feeling calmer, more patient, and kinder, especially to yourself. No matter which Mindful Moment you choose to practice, these shifts in your mindset can often help you see changes in other areas of your life. Add a Mindful Moment to your routine today!
